This may not be the most relevant or necessary movie in theaters this year, but it is one of the most fun ones out there. From the early London scenes, where Croft evades pursuers on a bike through the chaotic city traffic, to the island jungle moments, where she evades death by waterfalls or collapsing underground caverns, Tomb Raider is a visually-arresting reminder that choreography and stunts can still win the day over digital effects. In contrast to the earlier Lara Croft: Tomb Raider films that depicted the title character as an impossibly statuesque pin-up in the form of Angelina Jolie, Vikander's incarnation presents a surprisingly grounded testament to what real human bodies are capable of doing.
